Biomedics 55 Premier Aspheric UV

Dr. Quiring recommends this soft contact lens for patients with small amounts of astigmatism (but with not enough astigmatism to require a soft toric contact lens).  It's aspheric design often gives crisper vision, even when a patient has astigmatism!

CooperVision's Biomedics 55 Premier Aspheric is the first disposable contact lens that simultaneously corrects for spherical aberration in both the lens and the patient's eye, resulting in crisper vision.  Biomedics® 55 Premier™ delivers with an aspheric optical design that is optimized to precisely focus light traveling through the contact lens and human eye. The result, enhanced image quality regardless of the amount of lens power correction required.

Biomedics® 55 Premier™ was found in a recent clinical study to be the only lens which effectively controlled spherical aberration in the lens and human eye. Spherical aberration is the inability of a lens to focus light on a common point. With Biomedics® 55 Premier™, its ability to control aberration produces a contact lens that provides clearer, crisper, sharper vision. Also, a new thinner patented edge design provides unsurpassed wearing comfort compared to other contact lenses. Better vision and better comfort.

This lens has UV blocking characteristics as well;  99% in the UVB (280nm -315nm) range and 83% in the UVA (316 - 380nm) range.

Correcting Spherical Aberrations

The lens contains specific design enhancements to adjust for spherical aberration for each different lens power. In addition to the advanced aspheric optical design, the Biomedics 55 Premier Aspheric incorporates a unique, patented, rounded edge design intended to deliver greater wearing comfort.

Spherical aberration is caused by light refracting at varying degrees as it passes through the optics of both a lens and the eye. The amount of aberration in a lens depends on the lens power. And, the company says, most patients have a consistent amount of spherical aberration in their eyes.

This lens is approved for daily wear (replacement after 14 wearings) and extended wear (up to 6 nights/7 days and replacement after two weeks). It is packaged in boxes with 6 lenses in individual blister packs.
