Hurricane Katrina Volunteering

Dr. Quiring volunteered in Alabama with the American Red Cross in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The American Red Cross deployed Dr. Quiring to Alabama to volunteer in the recovery of Hurricane Katrina. The Red Cross Headquarters for this disaster is located in Montgomery, Alabama. While in Montgomery, he was assigned to Client Services (CLS) at the local Montgomery chapter. Dr. Quiring worked as a case worker; interviewing clients affected by the disaster who were applying for financial assistance (free grants). He did not provide optometric services in Alabama. Dr. Quiring was out of the office from September 10th to the 20th.

Alcon Laboratories generously donated a large supply of ocular antibiotics and artificial tear supplements valued at almost $5,000. Dr. Quiring delivered them to Medical Services at Headquarters and they distributed them to shelters and are being dispensed to hurricane victims. Alcon Humanitarian Services has a long history of generosity throughout the world.
Thank you very much Alcon!

Dr. Quiring also purchased 250 pairs of over-the-counter reading glasses that he took with him to Alabama. They were distributed to Mississippi and Alabama gulf coast shelters for those that lost their reading glasses.
