Post Operative Instructions

Patients must keep the eye shield on your eye for the first 24 hours.  After the first day, patients must use the shield while sleeping for a week.

Make sure to use eye drops as indicated.  They are very important in the healing process.  Continue using the drops until Dr. Coleman and Dr. Quiring instructs you to discontinue use or changes your drop schedule.  Please bring you eye drops with you to your post-op appointments.  Note:  the Pred Forte bottle must be shaken well.

First Night:

Please go directly home and rest after your procedure.  You may have some discomfort the evening of your surgery and possibly the next couple of days.  Use the pain medication we prescribed (take with milk or food) to alleviate any discomfort you may experience.  Please keep in mind that a burning sensation is normal, as is the feeling that you have sand or a foreign body in your eye.  You may also be light sensitive.  The good pair of UV protective glasses that we supply to you will help you.

Next Day:

Your vision may not be clear yet.  Usually, the vision clears within 24-72 hours.  Your eye will be very sensitive to cigar/cigarette/pipe smoke until then.  Reading is acceptable, but if you read excessively, you may experience eye fatigue.

Second Day:

Use your best judgment as to if you should return to work or not.  Check with Dr. Quiring if you have any questions.  He recommends light duty work and does not recommend strenuous lifting for a week.
