The Current Fashion Eyewear Trend:  Smaller Frame Styles

Thank goodness the fashion trend in eyewear styles has been moving to smaller, and yet smaller, frames and lenses. And patients with significant or strong prescriptions are so grateful. At least for now, the days of large lenses or what I call “window panes” of the 60’s and 70’s are behind us.

Smaller frames and lenses mean less weight on a patient’s nose, making wearing eyeglasses more comfortable. And cosmetically speaking, smaller frames mean that the frame doesn’t “take over” the patients’ facial appearance.

But changing to a smaller eyeglass frame can take some adjustment on the part of the patient. Patients commonly are bothered by the frame rim; interfering with their peripheral vision. But with a few days or weeks of adjustment most patients usually get over this problem.

Along with the trend of smaller frames, lenses have been redesigned to accommodate this trend. No-line (progressive) bifocals have been redesigned to allow less lens area for the smaller frames. These newly designed lenses are so much better than the available progressive lenses of just a few years ago; they offer better clarity of vision with much lower levels of distortion. Joe at The Optical Shoppe stays up on all the latest and greatest lens developments. Talk with him to learn more about your best lens options for your new eyeglasses.

The Bottom Line: Embrace the newer, smaller frame styles. They are much more attractive and offer much less weight on your nose.   ~RQ
